In the UK, Cancer Research UK (CRUK) officially recognizes that based on 10 clinical trials performed - "yoga could help to reduce anxiety, depression, fatigue and stress for some patients". The scientific community has just begun to understand and learn about the profound benefits that the 3000-year-old ancient yoga practice can bring to cancer survivors. Yoga is now an integral part of any cancer treatment modality programme for assisting cancer patients in their recovery. Several clinical studies, including recent ones performed by MD Anderson Centre in the USA has demonstrated that breast cancer patients who participated regularly in yoga classes were more relaxed, less likely to experience chronic pain and fatigue resulting in better quality of life. Unsurprisingly, Breast Cancer patients and survivors who practised yoga were also half as likely to be depressed as their counterpart cancer survivors who did not practise yoga. One of the suggested physiological impact yoga has, which other exercises do not confer is that yoga can help to reduce the stress hormone cortisol level, which is an indicator to how cancer patients will respond to cancer treatment. In simple words, the more cancer survivors practise yoga, the lower were their stress hormone cortisol level, improving their post cancer treatment survival rates.

For low energy days when a physical practice is not an option, simply doing the meditation alone can be energizing and healing. We are just beginning to understand the profound impact and power of the mind-body connection as it relates to cancer.
Studies by major medical institutions have shown that cancer patients who have a regular yoga practice were more relaxed, experienced less pain and fatigue, had better quality of life, and were half as likely to be depressed than their counterparts. The video creates active energy through standing poses, restorative energy through mat poses, and mental and physical relaxation from meditation. The practice can be done in the privacy of your home, with friends, or in a communal setting with other survivors.
